Ecuador Company Lookup: A Supervisor, Not a Registrar

An Ecuador company lookup runs through the Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros — SCVS, commonly Supercias — and its Portal de Información at appscvsmovil.supercias.gob.ec. This guide is short by construction: what is sourced is a self-description, a service menu, the search parameters, and two categories treated separately in the financial-statements consultation. Those four are written and the page stops. If you need the Ecuadorean population rather than one company at a time, the Ecuador company directory covers the same registered companies with industry, size and contact breakdowns attached, and the Ecuador business database is the same file described as a dataset.

Ecuador company lookup: the short version

  • Supercias describes itself as the technical body that vigila y controla — oversees and controls — the organisation, activities, functioning, dissolution and liquidation of companies.
  • Its Sector Societario menu carries Transferencia de Acciones and Prórrogas de Balances as services in their own right.
  • The Portal de Información's search parameters are Expediente, Identificación, Nombre.
  • The financial-statements consultation treats Economía Mixta and Sucursales Extranjeras as their own selection categories.

Oversees and controls, through to liquidation

Most bodies in this programme register, record or publish. Ecuador's describes itself with different verbs:

"La Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros es el organismo técnico, con autonomía administrativa y económica, que vigila y controla la organización, actividades, funcionamiento, disolución y liquidación de las compañías y otras entidades en las circunstancias y condiciones establecidas por la Ley."

The Superintendency of Companies, Securities and Insurance is the technical body, with administrative and economic autonomy, that oversees and controls the organisation, activities, functioning, dissolution and liquidation of companies and other entities, in the circumstances and conditions established by Law.

Read the span of that. Not formation and filings, but organisation, activities, functioning, dissolution and liquidation — a company's whole arc, and vigilar and controlar rather than inscribir or publicar.

What that suggests about the kind of information such a body holds is worth one sentence, and only one. A supervisor that follows companies through activity and into liquidation is positioned to hold more than a formation record. What it actually holds is not described here, because no field list was sourced — and the gap between what a mandate implies and what a register returns is exactly where guesses get made. ECUADOR_REPORT.md records it.

Share transfers as a portal service

The Sector Societario menu is a list, and listing it accurately is this page's main contribution:

Ingreso a los Sistemas de la SCVS · Actualización de Datos · Envío y recepción de Balances · Prórrogas de Balances · Contribuciones y Multas · Transferencia de Acciones · Constitución de Compañías · Reserva de Denominaciones · Emisión de Certificados · Estadísticas

Entry to the SCVS systems · data updating · sending and receiving balance sheets · balance-sheet extensions · contributions and fines · share transfers · company constitution · name reservation · certificate issuance · statistics.

Two of those are not what a reader would predict from a company registry.

Transferencia de Acciones — share transfers, as a named service on the supervisor's portal.

That is worth placing against a neighbour, carefully. The Argentina company lookup guide covers a registrar that states it keeps no shareholder registers, has no involvement with the titles representing share capital, and does not record attachments over shares — the registration of shares being the company's own duty under article 213 of Law 19.550. In Ecuador, share transfer is a service on the supervisor's portal.

That is a difference in where the function sits, and no more. This page does not say Ecuador publishes shareholders, does not describe what the service does, who may use it, or what it returns — none of that is sourced, and it is the single most consequential unknown here. Neither arrangement is ranked.

Prórrogas de Balances — extensions to balance-sheet filing — is the second, and it is a freshness fact. Filing deadlines for balance sheets can be extended, and the mechanism is a named portal service. A reader treating a missing recent balance sheet as non-compliance should know an extension route exists. What the extension involves, and on what grounds, is not described here.

What an Ecuadorean company register entry contains

A self-contained summary. Ecuador's company supervisor is the Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros (SCVS), described as the technical body, with administrative and economic autonomy, that oversees and controls the organisation, activities, functioning, dissolution and liquidation of companies and other entities in the circumstances and conditions established by Law. Its Portal de Información is at appscvsmovil.supercias.gob.ec. The Sector Societario section lists: entry to the SCVS systems, data updating, sending and receiving balance sheets, balance-sheet extensions, contributions and fines, share transfers, company constitution, name reservation, certificate issuance, and statistics. The Portal de Información's search parameters are Expediente, Identificación and Nombre. The external user manual for consulting financial statements online through the institutional web portal provides for company selection by Identificación, Nombre, Economía Mixta or Sucursales Extranjeras. This summary does not describe what the company consultation returns, because no field list was established from Supercias's own pages on the date shown.

Searching, and two categories of their own

The Portal de Información's search parameters are three: Expediente — the file number — Identificación, and Nombre.

The financial-statements consultation is documented separately, in an external user manual covering consultation of financial statements online through the institutional web portal, with company selection by Identificación, Nombre, Economía Mixta o Sucursales Extranjeras.

Mixed-economy companies and foreign branches are treated as their own selection categories rather than as ordinary entries retrieved by name. For anyone building a Ecuadorean dataset, that is a structural signal: those two populations are handled distinctly by the consultation itself, and a process assuming one uniform entity space will not match how the source is organised.

Where an Ecuador lookup stops

This page is short on purpose. Four things were established from Supercias's own pages — a self-description, a service menu, three search parameters, and two categories in the financial consultation — and four are written.

What is not here: what the company consultation returns. Constitution date, address and contacts, current status, objeto social, legal representatives, information on shares and shareholders, actos jurídicos — all of that circulates on Ecuadorean guide sites and none of it is Supercias's own page.

ECUADOR_REPORT.md flags one of those by a wide margin above the rest: whether the public consultation really returns shareholder information. If it does, Ecuador is the only register in this programme that publishes it freely, and the contrast with Argentina, Sweden and Finland stops being an inference from a menu item and becomes the page's whole point. It is not asserted here.

Where the question is a population rather than a company, a firmographic directory covers the same registered companies with classification, size and contact data attached and queryable as a set; the Americas company directory breaks the regional file down by market.

Data quality pitfalls to avoid in Ecuador

Inferring the field list from the mandate. A supervisor's span through activity and liquidation says what it is positioned to hold, not what a consultation returns.

Reading Transferencia de Acciones as published shareholder data. The service is named on the portal; what it does and what it returns are not established here.

Treating a missing recent balance sheet as non-compliance. Balance-sheet extensions are a named portal service.

Assuming one uniform entity space. The financial consultation treats Economía Mixta and Sucursales Extranjeras as their own selection categories.

Searching by RUT. The official search page lists Expediente, Identificación and Nombre; the RUT is not among the parameters stated there.

Carrying another country's arrangement across. At least one neighbouring registrar states it keeps no shareholder register at all; where a function sits differs by jurisdiction.

A repeatable Ecuador company lookup workflow

  1. Search by Expediente where you have one, otherwise by Identificación or Nombre.
  2. Use the financial-statements consultation separately, and select the right category for mixed-economy companies and foreign branches.
  3. Check whether a balance-sheet extension explains a gap before concluding a filing is missing.
  4. Treat anything about shares as unestablished until Supercias's own page describes it.
  5. Record which of the four sourced facts your conclusion rests on, because the rest of this register is undocumented here.
  6. Verify the consultation's field list independently before designing around it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Supercias?

The technical body, with administrative and economic autonomy, that oversees and controls the organisation, activities, functioning, dissolution and liquidation of companies and other entities in the circumstances and conditions established by Law.

What can I search by?

The Portal de Información's parameters are Expediente, Identificación and Nombre.

Does Ecuador publish shareholder information?

This page does not say. Transferencia de Acciones is listed as a service on the Sector Societario menu; what it does, who may use it, and what it returns were not established from Supercias's own pages.

Why might a balance sheet be missing?

Possibly because an extension applies. Prórrogas de Balances is a named portal service; what the extension involves is not described here.

Are foreign branches searched the same way?

Not in the financial-statements consultation, which provides for selection by Identificación, Nombre, Economía Mixta or Sucursales Extranjeras — the last two as categories of their own.

What does a company consultation return?

Not established on this page. No field list was sourced from Supercias.

Can I search by RUT?

The official search page lists Expediente, Identificación and Nombre. The RUT is not among the parameters stated there, and this page does not add it.

Every Spanish passage above is the Superintendency's own wording, read on the date shown, with its accents reproduced as written and an English gloss beside it rather than in place of it. No amount appears anywhere in this page's prose.

This page is short because four things were sourced and four are written. What the company consultation returns — constitution date, address and contacts, status, objeto social, legal representatives, information on shares and shareholders, actos jurídicos — comes from Ecuadorean guide sites rather than from Supercias, and none of it appears. ECUADOR_REPORT.md flags the shareholder question first, by a wide margin, because if the public consultation really returns it then Ecuador is the only register in this programme that publishes shareholder information freely.

The readings that are InfobelPRO's rather than the Superintendency's: that a body whose mandate runs through activity and into liquidation is positioned to hold more than a formation record, while what it actually holds is a separate and unsourced question; that Transferencia de Acciones and Prórrogas de Balances are the two menu items a reader would not predict; that an extension route means a missing recent balance sheet is not evidence of non-compliance; and that two categories of their own in the financial consultation signal a structure a uniform entity model will not match. Those are ours. The comparison with Argentina is a comparison of where a function sits, offered without ranking and without any claim that Ecuador publishes shareholders.
