A Slovakia company lookup runs through the Obchodný register, the commercial register, kept by the okresné súdy sitting at regional court seats. The Ministerstvo spravodlivosti SR runs the portal at orsr.sk and sluzby.orsr.sk, and the Register právnických osôb (RPO) is a separate reference register. Three roles, three bodies. This guide covers where a filed detail is published and where it is not, a data defect the register warns about itself, and how the extract handles the past. If you need the Slovak population rather than one company at a time, the Slovakia company directory covers the same registered entities with industry, size and contact breakdowns attached, and the Slovakia business database is the same file described as a dataset.
Slovakia company lookup: the short version
- Beneficial owner data is not publicly available on orsr.sk, nor in the Commercial Bulletin, nor in extracts from the commercial register. It is displayed in the Register právnických osôb.
- Registering a beneficial owner in the commercial register does not replace the obligation to register one for a public sector partner in the Register of Public Sector Partners.
- The úplný výpis carries current and historical data, with valid and invalid entries distinguished by colour and a validity period marked on every record.
- The register warns that a surname is occasionally stored non-standardly — for example with letters separated by spaces — and can only be found by entering it exactly as stored.
Filed into the register, published nowhere in it
Slovakia's beneficial ownership arrangement is unusual in where the data goes rather than in whether it exists, and the Ministry sets it out in one sentence:
"Údaje o konečnom užívateľovi výhod nie sú verejne dostupné na stránke www.orsr.sk, v obchodnom vestníku ani vo výpisoch z obchodného registra. Zobrazujú sa v Registri právnických osôb. Pre navrhovateľa sú zobrazené v potvrdení o vykonaní zápisu."
Data on the konečný užívateľ výhod — the ultimate beneficial owner — is not publicly available on www.orsr.sk, in the Commercial Bulletin, or in extracts from the commercial register. It is displayed in the Register of Legal Persons. For the applicant, it is shown in the confirmation of the entry having been made.
Count the surfaces, because the precision is the point. The data is filed into the commercial register. It is absent from three of that register's own outputs — the website, the Bulletin, and extracts. It surfaces in a different register, the RPO. And the person who filed it sees it in their own confirmation.
So a reader who searches orsr.sk, finds no beneficial owner, and concludes none was filed has drawn precisely the wrong inference. The absence is a publication rule, not a filing gap.
This page does not describe how the RPO is accessed, by whom, or what it shows — none of that was sourced, and the Ministry's sentence establishes only where the data is displayed.
One further rule sits beside it, and it is a separate obligation rather than a clarification of the same one:
"Zápis údajov o konečnom užívateľovi výhod v obchodnom registri aj naďalej nenahrádza povinnosť vykonať zápis konečného užívateľa výhod partnera verejného sektora do Registra partnerov verejného sektora."
Registering beneficial owner data in the commercial register continues not to replace the obligation to register the beneficial owner of a public sector partner in the Register of Public Sector Partners. Two registrations, two registers, and one does not discharge the other.
The register warns about its own data
Most registers in this series describe limits on their scope — what they do not contain, which entities are absent, what a document cannot prove. Slovakia's help file does something different, and as far as this series has found, it is the first to do it: it describes a defect in the data it holds.
"Príležitostne sa stáva, že priezvisko osoby je zapísané v databáze obchodného registra neštandardným spôsobom, napríklad s písmenami oddelenými medzerami. Aby aplikácia takéto priezvisko našla, musí byť pri vyhľadávaní zadané identicky ako je uvedené v databáze."
Occasionally it happens that a person's surname is entered in the commercial register database in a non-standard way, for example with the letters separated by spaces. For the application to find such a surname, it must be entered in the search identically as it appears in the database.
The consequence for anyone matching Slovak records is direct and worth stating plainly: a person search that returns nothing is not proof of absence. The stored form may not be the expected form, and the search requires an exact match against the stored form — so the one thing you cannot do is search for the name as it is actually spelled and conclude from an empty result.
It is also a silent failure. Nothing on the screen distinguishes "this person is not in the register" from "this person is in the register under a form you did not type".
The register says occasionally, and this page says occasionally. How often it happens is not something the source quantifies and not something a guide should estimate.
And publishing the warning is the opposite of hiding it. A register that documents a known imperfection in its own stored data is giving readers the one thing they need to work around it. This is not offered as a criticism of the Obchodný register; it is the sort of disclosure that makes a register more usable, not less trustworthy.
What a Slovak company register entry contains
A self-contained summary. Slovakia's commercial register is the Obchodný register, kept by the okresné súdy sitting at regional court seats, with the portal run by the Ministerstvo spravodlivosti SR at orsr.sk and sluzby.orsr.sk; the Register právnických osôb (RPO) is a separate reference register. Data on the ultimate beneficial owner is not publicly available on www.orsr.sk, in the Obchodný vestník, or in extracts from the commercial register; it is displayed in the Register of Legal Persons, and for the applicant it is shown in the confirmation of the entry having been made. Registering beneficial owner data in the commercial register does not replace the obligation to register the beneficial owner of a public sector partner in the Register of Public Sector Partners. The úplný výpis from the commercial register, for informative purposes, contains both current and historical data on a company held in the commercial register database; valid and invalid — that is, non-current, historical — data are distinguished by colour for ease of orientation, and each record is marked with its period of validity. The register's help states that occasionally a person's surname is entered in the database in a non-standard way, for example with the letters separated by spaces, and that for the application to find such a surname it must be entered in the search identically as it appears in the database. Where a sought entity is not found, the help states it is likely that the entity is simply not kept in the commercial register. Entities entered in the register include legal persons established by or under a law where a special law so provides, and enterprises and organisational units of foreign legal persons. This summary does not describe the field list of an extract, because none was established from the register's own pages on the date shown.
Colour-coded history
Slovakia's full extract handles the past in a way worth knowing before you read one:
"Úplný výpis z obchodného registra pre informatívne účely obsahuje aktuálne aj historické údaje o spoločnosti nachádzajúce sa v databáze obchodného registra. Platné a neplatné (neaktuálne, historické) údaje sú rozlíšené farebne pre jednoduchú orientáciu. Pri každom zázname je vyznačená jeho doba platnosti."
The úplný výpis from the commercial register, for informative purposes, contains both current and historical data on a company held in the register database. Valid and invalid — non-current, historical — data are distinguished by colour for ease of orientation. Each record is marked with its period of validity.
So the document is not a snapshot with a separate history behind it. It is one document carrying both, with the status of every line marked on the line itself.
Three registers in this series keep the past reachable in three different places. The Poland company lookup guide covers a register offering deleted data inside the free full extract, as a choice between two extract types. The Greece company lookup guide covers a register including deleted businesses in the search itself, as a population you can filter to. Slovakia marks validity on every line of a single document.
Three registers, three ways of showing the past, and none is ranked here. The difference is only where a reader has to remember to look — and, for Slovakia specifically, the caution that a colour distinction is a presentational device, so what survives depends on how the document is consumed.
Where a Slovakia lookup stops
The register's help answers the most common reason a search fails, and it is the register telling a reader not to conclude too much from an empty screen: where a sought entity is not found, "je pravdepodobné, že hľadaný subjekt jednoducho nie je vedený obchodným registrom" — it is likely that the sought entity is simply not kept in the commercial register.
That is a genuinely useful sentence, because it points at the right question. Entities entered in the register include legal persons established by or under a law where a special law so provides, and enterprises and organisational units of foreign legal persons. Which populations of Slovak business fall outside the commercial register altogether is not something this page states — it is the most useful missing fact here, it is not officially sourced, and SLOVAKIA_REPORT.md flags it first. Until it is sourced, treat an absence as "possibly not kept in this register" rather than "not registered anywhere".
This page also describes no field list of an extract. None was sourced.
Where the question is a population rather than a company, a firmographic directory covers the same registered entities with classification, size and contact data attached and queryable as a set; the Europe company directory breaks the European file down by market.
Data quality pitfalls to avoid in Slovakia
Concluding no beneficial owner was filed. The data is not publicly available on orsr.sk, in the Commercial Bulletin or in extracts; it is displayed in the Register of Legal Persons.
Treating the commercial register filing as discharging the public-sector obligation. It does not replace registering the beneficial owner of a public sector partner in the Register of Public Sector Partners.
Reading an empty person search as absence. A surname is occasionally stored non-standardly, and the search requires it to be entered exactly as stored.
Reading an empty entity search as non-existence. The register's help says the likely explanation is that the entity is simply not kept in the commercial register.
Losing the colour coding. Valid and invalid data in the full extract are distinguished by colour, so a pipeline that strips presentation loses the distinction unless it reads the marked validity period.
Assuming the extract is current-only. The úplný výpis contains current and historical data together.
A repeatable Slovakia company lookup workflow
- Take the úplný výpis when history matters, and read the validity period on each record rather than the colour alone.
- Go to the Register právnických osôb for beneficial owner data, not to orsr.sk.
- Treat a public-sector engagement as a separate registration question.
- Try alternative stored forms of a surname before concluding a person is absent.
- Treat an empty entity result as "possibly not kept in this register" rather than as non-existence.
- Record which court seat keeps the register for that entity alongside the record.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I see a Slovak company's beneficial owner?
Because the data is not publicly available on www.orsr.sk, in the Obchodný vestník, or in extracts from the commercial register. The Ministry states it is displayed in the Register of Legal Persons.
Does a commercial register filing cover the public sector partner obligation?
No. Registering beneficial owner data in the commercial register does not replace the obligation to register the beneficial owner of a public sector partner in the Register of Public Sector Partners.
What is in the úplný výpis?
Current and historical data on the company held in the register database, with valid and invalid data distinguished by colour and each record marked with its period of validity.
Why does a person search return nothing?
Possibly because the surname is stored non-standardly — the register gives the example of letters separated by spaces — and the application finds such a surname only if it is entered identically to the stored form.
How often does that happen?
The register says occasionally. It does not quantify it, and this page does not either.
What if I cannot find a company at all?
The register's help states it is likely that the sought entity is simply not kept in the commercial register.
Which entities are in the register?
Among others, legal persons established by or under a law where a special law so provides, and enterprises and organisational units of foreign legal persons.

Every Slovak sentence quoted above is the publisher's own wording, read on the date shown, carrying its diacritics as written, with an English gloss beside it rather than in place of it. No amount appears anywhere in this page's prose.
This page does not describe how the Register právnických osôb is accessed or what it shows, the field list of an extract, the rodné číslo rules, or the Obchodný vestník's publication mechanics. None was sourced. SLOVAKIA_REPORT.md records each, and flags first the question of which populations of Slovak business fall outside the commercial register — the most useful missing fact on this page.
The readings that are InfobelPRO's rather than the Ministry's: that the beneficial-owner absence is a publication rule rather than a filing gap, so an empty field on orsr.sk supports no inference about what was filed; that the non-standard surname warning makes an empty person search a silent failure, indistinguishable on screen from a genuine absence; and that a colour distinction is a presentational device, so a consumer that strips presentation must read the marked validity period instead. Those are ours. That the register publishes a warning about a defect in its own stored data is noted as a disclosure that makes it more usable, not as a criticism.
