Understanding NACE and SIC codes
What are NACE codes?
NACE (Nomenclature statistique des Activités économiques dans la Communauté Européenne) is the European standard for classifying business activities. NACE Rev. 2 is the current version, used across the EU for statistical reporting, regulatory compliance, and market segmentation. It follows a hierarchical structure — section, division, group, and class — to categorise economic activities with increasing specificity.
What are SIC codes?
The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system was developed by the US government to categorise businesses by their primary activity. While largely replaced by NAICS in official US statistics, SIC codes remain widely used in financial services, regulatory filings, and business databases worldwide. The 1987 revision is the most commonly referenced version.
Why convert between NACE and SIC?
Companies operating across the US and European markets need to reconcile industry classifications for data enrichment, compliance, and market analysis. A NACE-to-SIC concordance lets you normalise datasets, segment markets consistently, and match company records across systems that use different standards.
How does InfobelPRO use industry codes?
Our firmographic data includes standardised NACE and SIC classifications for 380M companies worldwide. Whether you're building a compliance workflow, segmenting prospects, or enriching a CRM — our API delivers normalised codes alongside legal identity, financial signals, and group structure.
